Eight computers from three companies seized for using pirated software

Five computers and three laptops, worth RM26,000, were seized for using pirated software in a three raids conducted by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (MDTCA) since last Tuesday.

The ministry’s Timur Laut enforcement head, Ahmad Ahrazzuddin Ahmad Hamdan said raids were conducted following complaints from Business Software Alliance.

He said the first raid was at an engineering company in George Town, where three computers were seized for using pirated software, namely Windows 10 Pro, Office Home and Business 2016, Solidware Premium 2020, Illustrator 2019 and AutoCAD 2019.

"The second raid was at an interior decoration company in Bayan Lepas, where two computers and a laptop using pirated software of Windows 7 Professional software, AutoCAD 2017, 3ds Max Design 2015, Recap 360 Pro, Photoshop CC, Illustrator CS6 and Sketchup Pro 2016.

"The third raid was conducted at a company that makes electronic components in George Town, where two laptops, believed to be using pirated software of Windows 10 Home, Office Standard 2016, AutoCAD 2017, SolidWorks Premium 2017, AutoCAD 2011 for Mac, Excel for Mac, Word for Mac and Powerpoint for Mac, were seized,” he said in a statement today.

He said the cases would be investigated under the Copyright Act 1987. - BERNAMA
