Maszlee first to arrive at nomination centre

SIMPANG RENGGAM - PKR candidate Dr Maszlee Malik arrived at the Layang-Layang nomination centre at the Simpang Renggam District Council, here, at about 8.30am, today.

The Simpang Renggam MP is expected to be opposed by candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Maszlee who was clad in Baju Melayu, was accompanied by a supporter and a proposer before entering the main hall to submit the nomination papers.

The nomination is scheduled to start at 9am and end at 10pm.

Just a few minutes later at 8.50am, Pejuang candidate Ahmad Shafiq Othaman arrived at the nomination centre.

Ahmad Shafiq wore a white Baju Melayu and was accompanied by a supporter and a proposer.

Meanwhile, PN candidate Alagathiran Krishnan arrived at 8.59am.

Umno candidate Abdul Mutalib Abd Rahim then arrived at 9.06am with a supporter and a proposer.

The former chairman of the Johor State Religious Affairs and Heritage Committee was also seen arriving at the nomination centre with a proposer and a supporter.

On Thursday, the Election Commission (EC) said no gatherings or processions will be allowed at any nomination centres during the Johor state election.

Its secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said only one supporter and one proposer were allowed to enter the nomination centre and follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Returning officer for the Layang-Layang state assembly Abdul Hakim Abd Manap has announced the closing of the nomination form submissions at 10am.
