SHAH ALAM - A total of 30, 000 members of the Malay Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPMM) and the 1Malaysia Government Pensioners Club (Kupekmas) will be the eyes and ears of the government to report complaints on price hikes on essential items.

This follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two non-governmental organisations (NGOs), during a meeting attended by the groups’ leaders and members at Seri Malaysia Hotel in Alor Setar, Kedah, on Monday.

"With many members, it would be very easy to get information for PPMM to take action against traders who only want to make more profit.

"The retired members of Kupekmas and PPMM will play their roles so that it would be easier for the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) to take action against cartels conspiring with factories and suppliers,” the NGOs said in a statement.
