SHAH ALAM - Muda is able to be a game changer and give an impact even though it has only been a few months involved in the country's political scene.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) political analyst, Professor Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said, a seat won in the Johor state election was an indicator that the party can be relevant in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15)

However, he said, Muda should be smart to reach out to various groups and not just focus on the young alone.

"For me, Muda's plan is not for the Johor state election. They are actually just testing the water to see whether only the young support them.

"I think the real target for Muda is to reach out to the middle class, professionals and urbanites that are able to agree with the issues brought by the party in the next GE15.

"However, in Johor, Muda has managed to win one seat and it is an achievement for Muda. The flow of support for Muda is also not too little compared to other new parties that are contesting,” he told Sinar Ahad.

According to him, apart from reaching out to different groups, Muda also needs political cooperation with other parties in GE15.

Sivamurugan said it was difficult for Muda to move on its own in the next GE and it was proven by the logistical constraints to reach out to the targeted group in Johor state election.

"It is difficult for them to move on their own because they are a new party and when contesting in the GE, they need strong logistics and machinery to enter the whole area.

"That is why they need political cooperation but it has to be a party that is in line with their ideas and mission. If it can be done, they can be a game changer and give an impact to the country's politics," he said.
