KUALA LUMPUR - Riding high on their recent win in the Johor and Melaka state elections, all three of Umno party wings - Wanita, Youth and Puteri - are calling for the 15th general election (GE15) to be held as soon as possible, during the party's annual general assembly yesterday.

Believing the landslide win achieve in both state elections is an indicator that the people are slowly returning to support Umno and BN, party wing leaders and delegates alike believe that they could win big in the coming general election.

In the Youth’s assembly yesterday, its chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki did not hold back against Umno's political enemies, stating that they were "ashamed” to share the same bed with "political traitors” who betrayed the people’s mandate and called for the mandate to be returned to the people.

In his opening speech, he also claims victory over pushing for people-centric policies such as the latest Employee Provident Fund withdrawal and have positioned the party as the champion of the common man.

Over at Wanita Umno, its chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad have sounded the clarion call, calling for all members to enter election mode.

Noraini said she believes that party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi along with other supreme council members will make the right decision on deciding when to call for a general election.

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Zahidah Zarik Khan however have called for the dissolution of Parliament, arguing that GE15 should be held immediately.

She had even declared for the Puteri wing to be bolder in preparation for the general election.

The statements issued by all party wings however have led to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob reminding his party that no one should supersede the power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah to dissolve Parliament and for a general election to be held.

Ismail stated any decision on the matter must be first discussed with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
