Local songbird Zee Avi who stole the hearts of Malaysians with her songs Kantoi and Bitter Heart has opened up about her experience on having to depend on a hearing aid device, after suffering from hearing loss.

The Sarawakian singer-songwriter shared she realised something was amiss with her hearing after more than a decade of crafting music.

She was initially hesitant to share the news with the world, as she feared the stigma that was planted in today’s society, particularly towards those with special needs and disabilities.

According to a press statement, this had caused her to delay seeking professional help.

However, a few years afters, her hearing problem took a toll on her professional career.

"Hearing is a very important sense for anybody who creates music. In order for them to keep on being inspired and especially for someone like me who composes music as well, hearing is definitely very essential,” she said in a video.

With the support of her husband and family members, she eventually sought for help from an audiologist clinic called Global Hearing Care Centre, and eventually agreed to use a hearing aid device.

After trying on a few devices, Zee Avi settled with a hearing aid model called "Alpha” which is not only designed to improve the user’s social life, but it's also specifically programmed for musical audio.

The singer felt it was her responsibility to share her story and urged those with similar problems to seek help from qualified audiologists.

"Make regular check-ups and check on the latest technology of hearing aid devices to improve the quality of your social life, not only for yourself but also your close friends and family members,” she said.
