SHAH ALAM - PKR organising secretary Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad says party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is still the man to lead the party into general elections

However, Anwar needs a solid team to back him, he added. "For this coming election, Anwar should still lead the party," he said during an interview with Sinar Daily Politically Frank.

But he said the party should give more prominence to younger leaders to revive the party.

PKR is at its lowest ebb has it was wiped out in Melaka polls and only won one seat against MIC from the 20 seats it contested in Johor.

Some PKR leaders have warned that the return of former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli could split the party as he eyes the PKR's number 2 seat left vacant after Datuk Seri Azmin Ali left for Bersatu in 2020.

Rafizi is speculated to be setting his own team for the vice president's post with sources stating it could be Nurul Izzah Anwar and Chang Lih Kang (Tanjong Malim MP) and former Kapar MP G Manivanan.

While PKR leader Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution who is also said to contest for the number 2 seat will bring in his own team.

However, Nik Nazmi said Rafizi's return is good as people are excited over his statements. He added Rafizi could also have credible leaders leading the party.

"It should be the fresh faces like Rafizi Ramli, Nurul Izzah and Chang Lih Kang who are popular within the public to assist Anwar into GE15,” he said.

Furthermore, Nik Nazmi said Anwar has previously said he does not plan to stay on at the party forever and the next generation would take over the party.

The party also needs to push for better policies to help the rakyat get better jobs, higher wages and to reduce cost of living to regain the trust of the people, he added.
