Cancer patient’s dream of becoming pilot fulfilled, thanks to RMAF

SHAH ALAM - A dream of a teenage boy suffering from Leukemia to be a fighter jet pilot even for a day finally came true, thanks to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

Irfan Mikael, 15, who was diagnosed with the final stage of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia cancer was given an opportunity to don a pilot suit with the 'rank of Lieutenant and was given the duties of a fighter pilot.

Irfan, who was accompanied by his parents during the visit were greeted by Executive Officer of Butterworth Air Base, Colonel Engku Faizal RMAF and Commanding Officer of Squadron 15 Lieutenant-Colonel Hafiz as they arrived.

He was taken to Squadron 15 to see the Hawk 108 and F18 Hornet and was given the chance to operate an F18 Hornet simulator aircraft.

During the visit, representatives from Squadron 15, Butterworth Air Force and representatives from RMAF College also presented donations to Irfan.

The RMAF took the opportunity to fulfill his dream upon learning about Irfan’s condition and his wish.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - RMAF 'Bersama Rakyat' programme is a joint venture between the RMAF College and Butterworth Air Base in conjunction with the 64th RMAF Day Celebration which will be celebrated on 1 June.

"The RMAF pray for the best for Irfan, may he be always in God's care. We also pray for his parents and family to persevere in these trying times. We hope that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and may there be a miracle for Irfan,” the RMAF College said in a statement on Facebook today.
