Man arrested over alleged rape of niece

SUNGAI PETANI – A teenager was allegedly raped when she slept over at her uncle’s house in Bandar Mutiara at about 12.30am Saturday.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan said the victim aged 15 was no longer schooling and lived with her grandmother.

"The victim had slept over at the house for two days since her grandmother had went back to her hometown in Pendang,” he said, adding that the grandmother had cared for the victim for the past year.

Zaidy said in the incident, the 34-year-old man went into the bedroom before allegedly touching the victim inappropriately and raped her.

"The victim tried to defend herself but failed,” he said in a statement today.

Zaidy added investigation revealed the incident took place in the bedroom of the victim’s aunt.

It was understood that the victim was sleeping with her aunty and two cousins aged eight and seven during the incident.

She had screamed when she was assaulted by the uncle.

"The victim was sent to Sultan Abdul Halim hospital for obstetrics and gynaecology checkups,” Zaidy said.

Police had arrested the man 12.38am on Sunday, and the man was remanded until next Saturday to facilitate the investigation.

Investigation was conducted under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
