I won’t live another thousand years to lead the party – Anwar Ibrahim

PETALING JAYA - Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chides "I won’t live another thousand years to lead the party” when asked if the upcoming 15th General Elections (GE15) would be his final battle to achieve his Reformasi agenda.

He said the Reformasi was a continuous process similar to the Islamic dakwah work thus completing the mission may take another 100 or 1,000 years to come.

"I know that I won’t live up to a 1,000 years old and continue being the party leader,” he told Sinar Daily in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

The most important agenda right now, he said, was to strengthen the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership.

He said he and his party needed to work hard to empower the parties aside from creating a strategy to win GE15.

"What’s most important to me is for PKR and PH to work hard and strengthen our strategy to face GE15,” he added.

Reformasi is a protest movement that began in September 1998 nationwide, initiated by Anwar after being sacked as deputy prime minister by then-Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Sept 2 that same year.

The Port Dickson MP also called out those fussing over his plans to become Prime Minister.

He said that becoming Prime Minister was only a small factor and that he might even lose during the elections.

"Who knows what could happen? I might actually lose in the upcoming polls.

"Why do we have to focus on personalities alone while there are so many other factors at hand that could contribute to PH’s win,” he said.
