TUARAN – An off-duty fireman on a fun day-out with his family ends up being a hero when he saved a man’s life at Pantai Syahbandar here yesterday.

The fireman, Abdul Baharin Bisoi from the Tuaran fire department had brought his family to the beach and he was swimming in the ocean when he heard people screaming for help as a man appeared to have drowned at about 4.50pm.

"While swimming, I heard screams saying that someone was drowning. At first, I looked around but did not see anyone in distress, but I later spotted several individuals about 30 metres from the beach.

"I swam towards them and saw a man in his 20s who was already unconscious.

"I quickly brought him back to the beach, and while I was feeling tired myself, I tried to give him CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation),” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian today.

Baharin performed CPR for about three minutes before the victim was revived.
