MACC opens two investigation papers on MRT project

PUTRAJAYA - The Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened two investigation papers on a public transportation infrastructure construction project linked to the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency had started the investigation since March, before the report on the French authorities' investigation on the allegations of fraud and corruption involving the MRT project worth RM692 million, a few years ago.

"We have opened two investigation papers.

"The scope of our investigation is on the issue of corruption that has happened and the money was paid to certain parties," he said when met after officiating MACC's programme with journalists on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the ministry was opened to investigations into claims of corruption in the public transportation infrastructure construction involving the MRT.

It was also previously reported that the French authorities were investigating allegations of fraud and corruption involving the RM692 million MRT project that took place a few years ago.

Commenting on the case of Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, Azam said MACC was still waiting for further instructions from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

"We have completed the investigation into the allegations and the investigation papers has also been submitted to the AGC and we are waiting for further instructions," he said.

He also declined to make any further statement on the matter.

Azam said the investigation conducted against Nazlan was a normal procedure following an official report lodged against the latter.

It was reported that Nazlan had lodged a police report denying allegations made by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin that there was an amount of money in the former's bank account which was unexplained.
