Chock-a-block as people adjust to new routine after lockdowns

SHAH ALAM - Some say the federal highway turns into a car park during peak hours, this is especially so after more people report to work from the office instead of their homes.

Transport Studies professor Prof Datuk Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah said congestion is worsening, especially in Klang Valley.

He added the health pandemic has created two types of travellers - those who have been working from home and university students who graduated during the two-year lockdowns.

"Now when the economic sectors are opening up, perhaps we have two batches of people joining the fray and increasing the capacity.

"People are yet to find alternatives in travelling,” said the panellist at Sinar Daily's live talk show Wacana English Edition dubbed "Rethinking Malaysia's Transport Systems”.

He said the change from working from home to the office will see people slowly adjusting to their new routine.

Commenting further, he said it is crucial to avoid a gridlock as it would paralyse people's movement.

"Alternatives routes are crucial to avoid congestion,” he added.
