SHAH ALAM - Ketari DAP assemblyman Young Syefura Othman has asked ministers and high-ranking officers to go to the ground to look at the cause of yesterday's massive floods in Baling, Kedah.
Syefura further criticised deforestation in the state.
"What happened in Baling is extremely saddening and we really hope those in power will realise it also involves lives and assets," she said.
Stressing on the issue, she pointed out the traumatic experiences that the flood victims had to go through.
"Even in Bentong, the people are still anxious whenever it rains and they stay awake if it rains at night.
"I hope the state and the federal government will play their role to control the problem," she said.
Authorities say the bodies of a pregnant woman and her mother-in-law who were washed away by floods in Kampung Iboi here yesterday, were found hugging each other, about 100 metres from the site of their flattened house.
The remains of Nurul Anis Abu Hassan, 28, who was four months pregnant, was found under a pile of tree trunks about 9.30am, along with the body of her mother-in-law, Salmah Mat Akib, 53.
