Its politically motivated, to silence our voices', say PH youth protesters over charges

SHAH ALAM - PH youths has slammed Putrajaya 's actions for taking action against youths who took part in protests held in the capital city over the controversial littoral combat ship (LCS) and rising cost of living.

They also said the action was to "intimidate and suppress their voices".

The statement was issued by youth chiefs Adam Adli (PKR), Kelvin Yii (DAP), Hasbie Muda (Amanah) and Felix Joseph Saang (UPKO).

"We see the action as not only politically motivated but intimidation to suppress the voice of young people.

"It is also a waste of court's time and authority resources who should be investigating and prosecuting criminals in our country including the leaders involved in corruption and abuse of power to the detriment of our national security,” they said in the statement.

The two youth protesters - Hasbie and PKR Batu youth chief Muhammad Aliff Naif are now currently facing charges under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for protests on the rising cost of goods at Kampung Baru on July 1.

They added freedom of speech and gathering peacefully are fundamental rights protected under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution.
