SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating several individuals in Kuwait allegedly related to the embezzlement of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds.

This comes after a claim made by a news portal regarding an ongoing investigation that involved several individuals overseas.

"MACC would like to clarify that the investigation has been done and actively carried out.

"The MACC is one of the main agencies in the recovery of assets and efforts to retrieve said assets that were the result of 1MDB misappropriation and from other companies are a priority.

"Every effort continues with the cooperation of foreign enforcement agencies which involved a complex and complicated flow of money,” MACC said in a statement.

The commission added it had held a series of discussions with the Kuwait enforcement agencies for the past two years and was still awaiting statements from them.

"In the meantime, as stated by the Attorney General on July 16, 2022, several offers made by Jho Low through his representative to the Malaysian government were wholly rejected by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

MACC further urged all parties not to speculate about this issue to avoid confusion to the community and might affect the investigation.
