King graces religious ceremony in conjunction with 89th Armed Forces Day

KUALA LUMPUR - Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today graced the Yasin, Tahlil and Special Khutbah (sermon) and Friday prayers in conjunction with the 89th Armed Forces Day at the Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque, here.

His Majesty was greeted on arrival at 12.40 pm by Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and his deputy Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz as well as Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Affendi Buang.

Also present were Ministry of Defence Secretary-General Datuk Seri Muez Abd Aziz, Army Chief General Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain, Royal Malaysian Navy Chief Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany and Royal Malaysian Air Force Chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan.

The reciting of yasin and tahlil was led by the Policy and Management Deputy Director-General of the Malaysian Armed Forces Religious Corp (KAGAT) Brigadier General Mohamad Hamzah Adam followed by the special Friday prayer khutbah titled 'National Sovereignty, Shared Responsibility' which was delivered by KAGAT Director-General Major General Mohd Rashidi Bujai.

Al-Sultan Abdullah then performed the Friday prayers with the congregation led by Mohamad Hamzah.

The khutbah stressed, among others, the need for Malaysians to understand that defending the nation's sovereignty is a shared responsibility of every Malaysian and to appreciate the security, well-being and peace that the country had gained through the sacrifices of past warriors.

His Majesty spent time mingling with the congregation consisting of 2,000 armed forces personnel as well as members of the public before leaving at 2 pm. - BERNAMA
