SHAH ALAM – Several Umno divisions have put forward a motion to support Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the 10th Prime Minister if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the 15th General Election (GE15).

In Johor, Umno Pontian division chief Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad said the motion was one of the three that was decided during the Umno Division meeting held at Pontian Umno Hall on Saturday with Umno general-secretary Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan present at the meeting.

"Pontian Umno agrees to the motion of having Ismail Sabri who is also Umno vice-president as the prime minister if BN wins in GE15.

"That's more appropriate and accurate than just being BN’s poster boy,” he said.

On Sept 18, it was reported that Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and also BN chairman confirmed that Ismail Sabri remained as the PM poster boy for BN in GE15.

Hasni who was also Umno and BN Johor chairman said the other two motions submitted by the Umno Pontian division were to support whichever candidates decided by the party leadership and solidarity of party members.

In Negeri Sembilan, Umno Jelebu division chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias confirmed their division wanted Ismail Sabri to remain as the national leader.

"The support was decided during the Umno Jelebu division meeting held on Saturday.

"The decision to choose Ismail Sabri is a continuation of what was decided during the supreme council meeting.

"This is the party’s decision agreed by the consensus of the grassroots for the betterment of Umno in facing GE15,” said the supreme council member.

In Melaka, Umno Alor Gajah division acting chief Datuk Rospandi Leman said the motion of Ismail Sabri as the 10th PM was aligned with the party’s supreme council decision.

He said the decision was agreed upon by roughly 640 representatives that attended.

He also said that the leadership of the Umno division agreed to support the supreme council’s decision to ensure the party's unity was safeguarded.

"We also submit the motion to support any candidate named by the BN leadership for the Alor Gajah parliamentary seat in GE15.

"What’s important is Umno Alor Gajah will ensure BN reclaims the seat won by the opposition in the previous GE,” he said after the official meeting was completed by Umno Melaka Board of Relations chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

In Kelantan, the Umno Ketereh division still wanted Ismail Sabri to be the 10th prime minister.

The support was one of the five motions of the supreme council agreed during the division’s meeting.

The relevant division also supported government's efforts led by Ismail Sabri to prioritise government transformation, especially the transformation of Parliament, the transition to the endemic phase, recovery of the national economy, dealing with inflation and cost of living of the people, defending the fate of the people and maintaining the peace and unity of Keluarga Malaysia.

Four more Umno divisions - Machang (Kelantan) and Tenggara, Parit Sulong and Tebrau in Johor have also stated a similar motion to retain Ismail Sabri as the 10th prime minister.
