KUALA LUMPUR - Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today graced a hi-tea reception to fete the jury and reciters of the 62nd International Level Qur'an Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) at Istana Negara here.
Also present was the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Idris Ahmad and Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani were also present.
About 200 guests from South Africa, Belgium, Iran, Maldives, Brunei and Thailand, among others, were feted at the reception.
Their Majesties were also pleased to present souvenirs to the 62nd MTHQA jury during the ceremony and joined in the photography session with the reciters and members of the jury.
The 62nd MTHQA kicked off on Oct 19 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and will end tomorrow.
The event is broadcast live on RTM’s TV1 and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department's official social media from 8.30 pm until 11 pm.
Malaysia hosts the MTHQA every year and was conferred the Best Organising of Al-Quran Programme at the international level award during the 7th edition of the Kuwait International Prize for Holy Quran in 2016.
Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah are expected to grace the closing and prize-giving ceremony tomorrow night. - BERNAMA
