SHAH ALAM - Around 100,000 Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari road users have been left baffled by the terrible traffic clog-up near Puncak Perdana especially during the rush hour for the past two weeks.

Motorists said the traffic congestion for around three kilometres had caused them over an hour delay compared to only five to 10 minutes previously.

Mohd Marzuki Abdullah, 48, who stayed in Alam Budiman said the problem was caused by a single lane road which could no accommodate the high traffic flow along the way.

Marzuki said he would usually take the route every day to send his children to school.

"Previously it took only 10 minutes for me to send my children to school, but now it would take up to an hour due to the congestion," he said when met by reporters on Wednesday.

Marzuki said the congestion usually happened between 6.30am and 9pm.

Taman Alam Budiman Residents Association chairman Badrulhisham Shahbudin, 53, said the rise in the total number of vehicles was seen after the opening of the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (Dash) on Oct 14.

Badrulhisham said the situation caused residents in Alam Budiman, Kampung Meru and Puncak Alam to complain every time they took the route.

He said residents have asked for the authorities to widen the existing road to facilitate traffic flow.

"The issue could have been resolved if the authorities had widen the road by adding another lane in the area.

"This problem occurred as there is only one lane near the Puncak Perdana Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) even though the number of vehicles was excessive," he said.

Meanwhile, Taman Greenhill Residents Association chairman Mohamad Zailani Johari, 53, said he hoped that the federal and state governments would discuss and solve the issue immediately.

"The development here is growing rapidly and if the issue is not resolved immediately, we worry that in four or five years the issue would continue to deteriorate," he said.

Jeram assemblyman Mohd Shaid Rosli said the Selangor state government and the Public Works Department (JKR) needed to take immediate action to overcome the issue which was affecting the Puncak Alam residents.

"We hope the problem could be solved because it involves the infrastructure facility which is now burdening the people as they have to go through severe traffic congestion.

"The total number of residents also continue to rise with the development of new housing projects and the widening of the roads must be done immediately," he said.
