NEW DELHI - At least 90 people are killed and many missing after a bridge collapsed in India's Gujarat state on Sunday.

Hundreds had gathered on the British-era suspension bridge on the Machchhu river in Morbi city when it collapsed.

The 232-metre-long pedestrian bridge, a popular tourist spot, reopened last week after being closed for seven months for renovation, local media reported.

The victims included many children who were enjoying an outing with their families.

"The bridge suddenly caved in when we were on it. All the people fell down," one injured person told the media.

The death toll was reported to be more than 90 people and rescuers were looking for dozens of missing people. - BERNAMA
