He would face Datuk Wetrom Bahanda from Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM), Pejuang’s Mohd Azmi Zulkiflie, Sharizal Denci (Muda) Jilid @ Zainuddin Kuminding (Warisan), and Norman Tulang (indepent).

The Kota Marudu Parliament was previously one of the 'hot' seats and was sought after by various political parties, causing Wetrom, who is also a member of the State Legislative Assembly of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to leave the party.
