GE15: 17km traffic congestion at Gombak toll plaza

KUALA LUMPUR- As city dwellers start their journey back to their hometown to cast their votes for the 15th General Election (GE15) tomorrow, traffic starts to build up more than 17 kilometre leading to and after the Gombak toll plaza since 10am today.

Sinar Harian's survey found that traffic congestion started from the Batu Caves flyover (MRR2) all the way to the Gombak toll plaza due to the sudden increase in vehicles heading to the East Coast via the Karak Highway following today's public holiday.

Meanwhile, Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT) Facebook announced traffic congestion for a distance of 17.4 kilometers merged with the Gombak Toll Plaza started at 11am today.

"While congestion for 5.7 kilometers occurred from Genting Sempah to Bukit Tinggi and three kilometres from kilometres 51.8-44.8 (Lentang).

"Traffic was also reported to be slow for 1.7 kilometres on LPT 1 Karak towards Kuantan due to the increase in vehicles," he said in a statement on LPT's Facebook page on Friday.

Meanwhile, the operator of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1), Anih Berhad today issued travel time recommendations for east coast expressway users, for the period of Nov 18 until Nov 20.

Anih Berhad in a statement said that there are two travel time options for highway users from the Klang Valley to the Gombak Toll Plaza, today which is the first option, to Pahang (from 10am to 2pm), Terengganu and Kelantan (6am to 10am). while 12 midnight to am for all destinations.

For the second option, Anih Berhad suggested travel time to Pahang from 8pm to 11pm while the route to Terengganu and Kelantan from 5pm to 8pm.

For the journey to the Klang Valley on Nov 20, the highway operator suggested a travel schedule from Pahang (6am-10am), Terengganu (8am-11am), Kelantan (6pm-8pm) and 12 midnight to 6am for all destinations.
