The King was previously reported to have ordered that the heads of political parties and party coalitions with a majority of seats submit the names of the prime minister candidates to Istana Negara before 2pm on Monday.

Yesterday's polls results showed no political party had a simple majority to form a new government, causing a hung parliament.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 82 seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 73 seats and BN (30) seats.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) won 22 seats, Parti Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) with six seats, Warisan (three seats), independent (two seats) and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (one seat).
