SHAH ALAM - The Vice Chiefs of Umno Malaysia Division urged its President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, to resign immediately in order to take responsibility for the heavy and humiliating defeat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Its chairman, Datuk Muhamad Anuar Mohd Yunus, said the party also demanded that Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan or better known as Tok Mat to resign due to the strategic rigour of the candidates at stake in the coalition.

According to Anuar, the call was one of the five things demanded by the Vice Chiefs of Umno Malaysia Division following the failure of the coalition to return to governing the country.

"The Vice-Chiefs of Umno Division of Malaysia with humility, for the love of the party and fight for religion, race and nation expressed their stance and demanded immediate action from the top leadership of his first party and any discussion and effort to unite Umno and BN parties with Pakatan Harapan (PH) is not accepted.

"Secondly, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid is urged to relinquish his position as Umno President and as Chairman of BN immediately to account for the humiliating defeat and that's even worse than GE14," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that other things that were also demanded were Tok Mat to relinquish his position as the BN Election Director and all Umno leaders who were clearly seen close to the hearts of the people should be given an immediate place in the leadership of the Umno Supreme Council.

Earlier today, the Electoral Commission (EC) said no political party had secured a majority of 50 per cent of the 220 parliamentary seats contested in GE15 to form a government.

Based on the official results, Pakatan Harapan gained 76 seats; Perikatan Nasional (51); Barisan Nasional (30); Gabungan Parti Sarawak (22); Pas (22); Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six) and Warisan (three).

In addition, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and Malaysian Nation Party (PBM) are respectively one with Independent gained two.
