KOTA KINABALU - The Kota Marudu hospital is in dire need of medical equipment and facilities.

Bandau Assemblyman Datuk Wetrom Bahanda said the hospital facilities and infrastructure needed to be upgraded immediately as it involves the medical treatment and lives of the people living in Kota Marudu.

He said among the things that needed to be upgraded are the oxygen machines and also the mortuary freezers which were faulty at the moment.

" The Kota Marudu Hospital is worn-down and all of its critical equipment needs to be repaired or upgraded for the use of patients

"This is particularly important because it involves the lives of the people who require urgent medical treatment and care. For example, I was recently approached by the Kota Marudu people who informed me that the bodies were not being kept there but were sent to Pitas and Kudat because the mortuary freezers for the bodies were broken this is very inconvenient for the people.

"There was also a shortage of medical supplies such as oxygen equipment where recently there was an accident and I understood that the victim arrived at the hospital however only received oxygen 40 minutes later and the victim later did not survive, perhaps if he had received the oxygen earlier it could have saved his life ," he said while he debating the 2023 state budget here Tuesday.

He said specialists should also be stationed at Kota Marudu Hospital to facilitate patients receiving treatments and ambulances should be added for the hospital's use.

" We at Kota Marudu do not have specialists, we only have doctors or those who are still in training.

" The same goes for ambulances which are very critical. Imagine if there was an emergency situation, this will result in the lives of the Kota Marudu people being threatened," he said.
