Selangor, Perak still affected by floods - Nadma

SHAH ALAM - Selangor and Perak are still affected by floods as of 4pm today.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said in a statement that 501 victims from 144 families were still seeking shelter at five temporary evacuation centres (PPS).

According to the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID), as of 4pm today, six rivers were recorded to be at danger level.

"The rivers involved Sungai Bernam in Kampung Sungai Selisek, Hulu Selangor; Sungai Langat in Bukit Changgang, Kuala Langat; Long Teru, Miri; Sungai Muar in Kampung Awat, Segamat; Sungai Muar in Pekan Rompin, Jempol and Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong, Hilir Perak," it said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Department of Meteorology Malaysia (MetMalaysia) issued a significant weather forecast from Dec 2 to Dec 8.

Based on the weather analysis, strong easterly winds were expected to converge on the east and north coasts of the peninsular until Dec 4 and potentially cause persistent heavy rains in the area.

"At the same time, a low-pressure weather system is expected to form in the waters of the South China Sea on Dec 2, and expected to move west near the east coast of the peninsula.

"These conditions may increase the intensity of rainfall in the area," the statement said.
