KUALA LUMPUR - Police arrested a local man yesterday on suspicion of threatening to attack a food deliveryman and his foster mother with a folding knife and a sword on Nov 25.

Ampang district police chief ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the 48-year-old suspect was detained after he surrendered at the Taman Melawati police station at 1.30pm on Dec 4.

"In the incident at 8.30pm, the 22-year-old victim and his foster mother were approached by the suspect who was in a Proton Exora MPV when they were at a petrol station in Taman Melawati.

"The suspect then pointed the folding knife and a 52-centimetre sword at the duo," he said in a statement today.

Mohamad Farouk said the suspect also threatened to slash the woman's neck. However, neither of them suffered any injuries.

He said the initial investigation found that the incident was due to a misunderstanding between the victims and suspect about the price of a drink.

"The suspect has no criminal record. He will be remanded to assist in the investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal threats," he said. - BERNAMA
