Nothing to hide, Tengku Zafrul says on RM600 bil misappropriation claim

SHAH ALAM – International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz today says that he has nothing to hide over claims that RM600 billion in public funds alleged to have been misappropriated.

In a brief statement today, he said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had yet to summon him.

"There is nothing to hide. To date, the MACC has not contacted me.

"Once they get in touch (with me), I will give my full cooperation,” he said in a tweet on his official Twitter account.

It was reported that the MACC would call up at least three members of the previous Perikatan Nasional-led administration in the course of its investigations into RM600 billion in public funds alleged to have been misappropriated.

The three individuals are Tengku Zafrul as the then finance minister, the prime minister at the time Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and then health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The RM600 billion was meant for funds during the Covid-19 pandemic and included money for Covid-19 vaccines.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had previously confirmed that the commission had opened investigations into the allegations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had recently said Finance Ministry officials had confirmed that there was a serious breach of procedures in handling RM600 billion of funds during Muhyiddin's administration.

However, Muhyiddin was reported as saying that he was not afraid of being investigated following police reports lodged by several parties claiming that he misappropriated the funds.
