SHAH ALAM – The appointment of Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Dewan Rakyat’s Opposition Leader raises questions as the post is usually reserved for the next prime minister.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi questioned if the appointment meant that Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was no longer interested in being the Prime Minister.

The Umno Batu Pahat head questioned if Hamzah would be the PN’s poster boy in the 16th General Election and the prime minister candidate.

"Maybe Muhyiddin is no longer willing to be a warlord in Parliament, since he also has his own baggage or they (PN) may have other strategies.

"Five years is too long for Hamzah to be the Opposition Leader as he can do so many things (in the timeframe).

"He is not a small child, he is a great destroyer,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

Puad also said that Hamzah's appointment could be the end of Muhyiddin’s political career, but he hoped that it would not happen.

Recently, Hamzah, who is also a Larut MP was appointed as the Dewan Rakyat Opposition Leader.
