JOHOR BAHRU - After a decade, famed songstress, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin returned to Persada Johor International Convention Centre for a two-night exclusive performance, A Night to Remember that kicked off on Friday.

More than 4,000 of her loyal fans, known as SitiZoners from all over the country including Singapore showed up to revel in her performance.

At 8.30pm, Khai Bahar entered the stage to warm up the audience by singing his hits, ‘Luluh’ and ‘Bayang’ before he invited Aina Abdul, winner of the Best Vocalist award of the 36th edition of the country’s music award ceremony, Juara Lagu, for a duet with ‘Nafas Cinta’.

Aina, who attributed her foray into the music industry to Siti Nurhaliza, proceeded to belt out two more songs, building up the suspense among the audience whose excitement was barely contained to see their beloved singer take over the stage.

Clad in an all-black costume, Siti Nurhaliza appeared on stage at 9.15 pm effortlessly singing ‘7 Nasihat’ including the rap verse that was originally sung by rap artists Kmo Kmo and Luca Sickta.

She then moved on to a medley of her hit songs ‘Nian Di Hati’, ‘Bicara Manis’, ‘Kuasa Cintamu’, ‘Bukan Cinta Biasa’, ‘Terbaik Bagimu’, ‘Janji Kasih’ and ‘Kau Kekasihku’ with fresh music arrangement by the concert’s music director, well-known composer Aubrey Suwito and his line up of experienced musicians including New York-born expert percussionist, Steve Thornton.

Opening up to the audience after three songs, Siti Nurhaliza said she had been involved in the music industry for 27 years and recorded more than 200 songs, adding that it was a mammoth task to combine all the songs in one night.

"That's why I'm glad Aubrey Suwito is with me, from my first concert, (he) saw me grow up before his eyes.

"I am also happy that my special fans have supported me from the beginning until now," she said, adding that the songs that had been given a breath of fresh air were a gift to the fans who had supported her from her early days as the winner of Malaysia’s coveted singing competition, Bintang HMI in 1995.

In the second segment of the performance, Siti Nurhaliza went off stage to get acquainted with the fans before belting out ‘Aku Bidadari Syurgamu’, the soundtrack for the highly viewed drama series ‘7 Hari Mencintaiku’.

The 42-year-old performer then sang ‘Seluruh Cinta’ with Khai Bahar, a song that she originally performed with Indonesian artiste, Cakra Khan.

Siti Nurhaliza dedicated the third segment of the night to ‘Irama Malaysia’ composer, the late Datuk Suhaimi Mohd Zain or Pak Ngah, who was instrumental in raising her name in the genre.

Siti Nurhaliza performed ‘Lagu Hati Kama’ her breakout song in the genre with Aina, before proceeding to a medley of her other hits namely ‘Biarlah Rahsia’ and ‘Demi Kasih Sayang’ arranged in the style of ‘keroncong’ music which is popular in Johor as a tribute to Johoreans.

The singer closed the almost three-hour concert with ‘Seindah Biasa’ and ‘Rentak 106’, a song in the traditional ‘joget’ genre prompting the fans to dance with her.

Persada Johor general manager David Emir Bareng told Bernama that Siti Nurhaliza’s performance was the first in a series of exclusive performances planned at the venue to highlight talents in the local music industry next year. - BERNAMA
