'Abang Viva' is back, now helping flood victims in Terengganu

MELAKA - A disaster volunteer better known as Abang Viva participates in the flood aid mission on the east coast, this time driving a Mitsubishi Triton four-wheel drive.

Azwan Omar, 30, said, upon his arrival in Terengganu, the volunteer group immediately carried out a mission to rescue residents in the Hulu Terengganu area as the movement was quite limited to other places because many areas had been flooded.

"Together with the team from Fire and Rescue Department, we had conducted a rescue mission for residents in Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu who were affected by the flood," he said when contacted on Monday.

He added that through the Abang V-Va Welfare Movement Organisation, he planned to continue the rescue mission in Kelantan as the situation is getting worse in the state.

However, he said, it was understood that some of the main routes to the state could not be passed, causing his group to still be in Terengganu at the moment.

He explained that the volunteer mission this time was quite challenging with continuous rain, high volume of water and the depth of the water in addition to facing the problem of the boat's engine being difficult to start.

"In addition to rescuing, we also provide assistance to flood victims through donations from the public through our association's bank account," he said.
