PUTRAJAYA - Pas vehemently rejected Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's statement that it wants to kill Umno from the country's political arena.

Instead, Pas secretary general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan chided that based on the country's political history, Umno has been determined to get rid of Pas for a very long time.

"This includes attempts to ban Pas at some point in the past," he said in a statement on Friday.

Takiyuddin added that Mohamad's assumption that DAP is sincere towards Umno is also absurd.

"It (the statement) was made out of cumpulsion," he said.

He said, as a mainstream party in the country, Pas will continue to be open and ready to hold meetings, discussions, and negotiations with any party by focusing on points of commonality and bridging the gap of differences for the good of the country.

"Pas is very confident that only with the unity of all political parties, formed on the basis of sincerity and good intentions, will we be able to guarantee a fair and just government for all the people," he said.

Pas has always upheld mature and harmonious practises and approaches in national politics.

Last week, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang insisted the party will not 'kill' Umno as claimed by certain quarters.

He said that Pas once saved Umno and it became a guest house for the party's ousted leader.
