MCA likely to survive but may face uphill battle to woo Chinese voters, say experts

SHAH ALAM - After seven decades in existence, experts say MCA may still survive but likely to face an uphill battle to woo Chinese voters, experts say.

International Islamic University political analyst Dr Syaza Shukri said the majority of Chinese community support DAP.

"MCA can survive if they strategically play their role to represent the Chinese.

"They now have time to rehabilitate their image by working with Pakatan Harapan (PH) which includes DAP.,” she told Sinar Daily.

Echoing Dr Syaza’s opinion, political analyst and lecturer from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Associate Professor Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani also said it depends on MCA.

"I don’t think there will be rivalry between the two parties since DAP represents all races," said Azizuddin.

He urged MCA to change their political approach so that they are accepted by the Chinese.

Meanwhile, political analyst Dr Oh Ei Sun said MCA needs to brainstorm on their future.

"MCA would have to deeply ponder as to how to improve its standing among the Chinese community which it claims to represent,” he said.

Nevertheless, he added that MCA still had the opportunity to survive as they still own assets abroad which could be used to win back support.
