SHAH ALAM - The Umno cleanse is not a solution and could lead to other issues, says political veteran Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
He said Umno was in a dilemma on whether they wanted to take action towards the leaders who criticised the party.
"Umno's position currently is at its lowest in terms of acceptability and their popularity
"I think it is not an easy task for Umno to come back from this. We must observe the leadership's actions now," he told Sinar on Sunday.
Hamid claimed that Umno's crisis is different than what they have faced before.
"In the past Umno could overcome several problems because of its name and reputation.
"The current Umno is at its weakest, it is far more challenging. It can't be placed on the same ranks as before when Umno had the strength and acceptance," he said.
Hamid said one of the ways that Umno could bring itself out from the current crisis affecting the party is through a refresh and reform of their image.
"With a strong internal strength, the public's confidence and acceptance could be returned to the party," he said.
