KUALA TERENGGANU - The Elections Court today set Feb 12 to hear the respondents' preliminary objection to the election petition submitted by Umno against the Marang parliamentary result in the 15th General Elections on Nov 19.

Election judge Datuk Hassan Abdul Ghani made the decision after hearing several preliminary objections submitted by the respondents and the petitioners' counter-arguments in the proceedings that started at 11am today.

Lawyer Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who represented Marang MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, said he had inserted several matters involving the question of laws and procedures in the preliminary objection argument.

Takiyuddin said the court asked for both parties to insert arguments and facts which the court had determined before Feb 6.

"If our preliminary objection is accepted, there will be no trial, but if it is rejected the court will decide a decision date for the petition," he said to reporters at the court grounds today.

The petitioners were represented by lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun.
