KOTA KINABALU - Former Sabah Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has officially been appointed as Gagasan Rakyat Sabah's (Gagasan Rakyat) president through a special meeting held by the party on Sunday.

The current party leadership line up is made up of Deputy President Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif (Vice President I), Datuk Rubin Balang (Vice President II) and Datuk Masiung Banah (Vice President III).

The Women’s wing is lead by Datuk Redonah Bahanda meanwhile Datuk Fairuz Renndan is heading the youth wing, and the Beliawanis wing is lead by Emmie M Idang.

Hajiji who was the Gabungun Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman said through the move all members now had a political platform that was 100 per cent local to continue their struggles for Sabah and its people.

"The two main characteristics of Gagasan Rakyat became the factors that attract my friends and I to join this multi-racial party that carried an inclusive image and the voice of Sabahans and to highlight and help solve local struggles.

"This was the factor that convinced those in GRS to accept Gagasan Rakyat as their component allies immediately,” he said in the meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.

The Sabah Chief Minister said the desire to make GRS as a local platform joined by local parties had been stated before.

"The GRS component has long desired to become a platform for locals and to ensure that all partners are local parties.

"Now we are 100 per cent local,” he said.

Hajiji added that a more detailed explanation of the party's direction will be produced during its launch on March 2.

Gagasan Rakyat stated it will establish a party organisation structure in all 73 State Assemblies including the formation of its Wanita, Youth and Beliawanis wings.

The branch and division annual general meetings have been scheduled for July and September while the annual congress would is slated to be held in November.
