Sungai Tengi Wildlife Conservation Centre celebrates birth of three leopard kittens

SHAH ALAM - Three leopard kittens were born at the Sungai Tengi Wildlife Conservation Centre (PHKL), Selangor.

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Peninsular Malaysia (Perhilitan) wrote about the arrival of the kittens through an Instagram post, yesterday.

The kittens, the department said were born on Feb 20.

"The kittens are in good condition. They were theoffsprings of Pulau (male leopard cat) and Pinang (female leopard cat).

"We obtained the parents of the kittens from a member of the public who had handed them over through the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Sungkai, Perak, in September 2022," Perhilitan wrote in the post.

It said the kittens will be taken care of by the PHKL staff.

A leopard cat or its scientific name "Prionailurus Bengalensis", is a small wild cat native to continental South, Southeast, and East Asia.

It has been classified as Least Concern on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of threatened species since 2002 as it is widely distributed despite being threatened by habitat loss and hunting in parts of its range.
