SHAH ALAM - Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Wong Kah Woh rates Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s 100 days in office performance as "satisfactory”.

He said Anwar’s move to hold a series of announcements after the swearing-in ceremony showed clarity in terms of objective and strategy.

Among them, he said, was the government’s requirement to purchase through an open tender.

"This is very important. It is telling everyone clearly that to obtain the government’s contract, one must rely on his capability and not through connection,’’ he said.

He also said that the government must be serious in improving Malaysia’s position listed by the Corruption Perceptions Index, where the country dropped both ranking and score for 2022.

He said many were concerned whether the political leaders elected by the people were able to achieve a breakthrough since the day-to-day operations of the public service were run by the civil servants.

"If those in power lack political will and leadership, it will be a case of the same for whoever is the government,” he said.

The Taiping MP said the Malaysia Madani concept was country’s direction but one of the challenges faced was the Opposition’s continues bid to sensationalise racial and religious issues.

He said it was important to ensure all Malaysians live in harmony for a better tomorrow as there was running away from being a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural state.

Anwar was sworn in as the 10th prime minister on Nov 24, 2022 after the 15th General Election and leads the Unity Government comprising his coalition Pakatan Harapan as well as Barisan Nasional and East Malaysia’s Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Warisan.

On Dec 16, leaders from the five political coalitions and parties signed a memorandum of understanding to support his administration.

The MoU, among other things, stated that all parties in the respective coalitions should vote to support the prime minister in all matters related to confidence and supply, and matters that can affect the legitimacy of the government.
