US ready to offer agriculture training programmes to Malaysia

SHAH ALAM - The United States (US) has stated that it is ready to offer various agriculture training programmes that could benefit Malaysia.

US Ambassador to Malaysia Brian Mcfreeters informed the matter while visiting Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu at the Farmers' Organisation Authority Tower in Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday (March 1).

The ministry in a statement said the first-time meeting between both leaders were to strengthen the two-way relationship in the agricultural field.

In a statement, it said the food security and technical cooperation were among the issues discussed.

"During the meeting, Mohamad pushed towards the issue of food security in the country as a global issue affecting other countries as well.

"It is important for both countries to cooperate and increase the production of food using smart technology and artificial intelligence (AI)," it said today.

It added that both countries were prepared to strengthen the trade cooperation in the agricultural sector in line with the need to guarantee sustainable and continuous food sources.

"US is an agricultural trading partner with high potential for continued development.

"Others attending the meeting were Agriculture and Food Security Ministry senior officers as well as officers from the American Embassy in Malaysia," the statement said.

There was an increase in the agricultural trade value between Malaysia and US from January to November 2022 which was RM13.24 billion compared to RM12.55 billion in 2021.
