MARANG - Pas spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin has deemed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's latest alliance with Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) as a wrong decision.

Hashim said the former Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman chose to rely on a party in disarray, while there were other parties carrying the struggle for Malay, Islamic, rulers and constitutional rights.

"I think it was incorrect, as Putra was already crumbling looking for a means to stay afloat while there were much better options.

"Why didn’t he take a step back to think about it,” he told media after his lecture at the Taujihat Leadership Ceremony in conjunction with As-Sabiqun Day at Tok Guru Hall, Rusila, here, on Friday night.

Dr Mahathir on Wednesday officially joined Putra and was appointed as adviser after he announced his departure from Pejuang on Feb 10.

Hashim viewed Dr Mahathir’s involvement as a means to strengthen Putra as the former Langkawi MP had lost heavily in the 15th general election (GE15).

He explained Perikatan Nasional (PN) was always open to receiving former leaders or any parties who wanted to join the coalition.

However, he said Dr Mahathir had never voiced his intention to join PN.

"I never heard this, but we are always open and discussions can be held,” he said.
