SHAH ALAM - The legacy of good planning by the previous Economy Ministry leadership should be maintained, says Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli.

Rafizi said this in praise of his predecessor Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed's vision.

"I don’t know if others feel like me when I become a minister, especially if it's the first time being a minister.

"Many people congratulated me and I often don't know what kind of response to give to those congratulations because the job is a huge burden.

"For me, the job as a minister is no different from the job of a 'general manager'. There were plans made within the organisation we joined,” he said on Facebook on Wednesday.

Rafizi added, the effectiveness of a general manager is seen in his ability to improve the plan and implement it better so that the goal is achieved.

"When it's time for us to move on to a new task, we should leave the organisation in a better state and the benefits will be felt by many people.

"What was left by the general manager before us was good and it should be maintained. If there is room to improve the implementation, we will focus on that," he said.

In the meantime, Rafizi explained that his background compared to Mustapa was more or less the same, which is that he has professional training in economics and finance.

"We have a lot of common interests, such as efforts to eradicate poverty and help the needy. Tok Pa (Mustapa) visited the old office on a recent Monday.

"I am pleased that Tok Pa will continue to have space to contribute his services (even in retirement) in matters under the Economy Ministry that are close to his heart such as poverty eradication and improving economic sustainability in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," explained Rafizi.

Rafizi said when the time comes for him to hand over the trust to the general manager after him one day hopefully there will be good continuity.

"I also hope there will be good continuity like between me and Tok Pa."
