MACC confirms Muhyiddin to face further charges at Shah Alam Court on Monday

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will face further charges under Section 4(1)(b) of the 2001 Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (AMLATFPUAA) next week.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated the Bersatu president will be charged in Shah Alam Sessions Court on Monday.

He said the charges under AMLATFPUAA involve the Jana Wibawa programme under MACC investigations.

"Muhyiddin will be charged under AMLATFPUAA in the Shah Alam Sessions Court this Monday,” he said on Saturday.

Azam said if found guilty, Muhyiddin faces imprisonment for a maximum of 15 years and could be charged not more than five times the amount or profit gained from the money laundering activities or RM5 million, whichever was higher.

Muhyiddin in a press conference after being released from detention on MACC bail on Thursday, said he was facing seven charges in court.

Six of the charges were done in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Friday while one other charge was due in the Shah Alam Sessions Court this Monday.

Muhyiddin was charged for using his position to gain bribes of RM232.5 million and two money laundering charges involving RM195 million.

Muhyiddin pleaded not guilty after judge Azura Alwi read the charges.
