MAIWP channels RM9.46 million for Ihya' Ramadan programmes

KUALA LUMPUR - The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has distributed RM9.46 million in Ihya' Ramadan donations to mosques and suraus across the territory to mobilise various programmes and activities for Muslims during the Ramadan month.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Naim Mokhtar said the zakat fund will benefit about 809 mosques and surau in the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

"This is one of the concerns of MAIWP, to provide various facilities and look after the welfare and needs of the Muslim community in the Federal Territories, including the needs of mosques and surau," he said at the Ihya Ramadan handing over here today.

Mohd Na'im said MAIWP has also launched the Iftar Ramadan Rahmah, which will provide RM4 million to 70 Friday mosques and surau in the Federal Territories, benefiting about 630,000 poor and fi sabilillah groups.

He said the Islamic Religious Council of Federal Territory Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) has appointed 921 leaders and Amli Fitrah assistants this year to collect the zakat fitrah at 10 PPZ-MAIWP Zakat counters, mosques, surau, supermarkets and other place - BERNAMA
