'You can become an activist but don't become a yes man'

KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today provided assurance that the unity government will not restrict students' voices as long as they do not affect the sensitivities of the people.

The Tambun MP explained the government will not compromise with those using issues of race or religion for to gain mileage.

"Students can become activists fighting for student rights, but don’t become a yes man or saboteur.

"I want to ensure the unity government will not restrict those wanting to voice out students' struggles.

"However, if it involves using the sentiments of race and religion (I repeat) strict action will be taken,” he said during ‘Dialog Anak Muda – Temu Anwar’ live, here, on Sunday.

Anwar at the same time recalled his political involvement as a student, which included him being imprisoned.

He said the government should not take action towards activists fighting for their rights to truly understand their wants.

Thousands of attendees who were mostly youth attended the dialogue that was held for the first time since the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman became Prime Minister.
