KUALA LUMPUR - The Transport Ministry is in the process of developing a system through an app or other digital methods to cancel vehicles registration online.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the system aims to make the process easier for individuals who wish to dispose of old or damaged vehicles by cancelling its registration without having to physically go to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) counter.

"The vehicle can then be disposed of by a solid waste disposal company from Authorised Automotive Treatment Facilities (AATF), that is recognised to follow the rules set by the relevant agencies

"It is hoped that with this implementation, the dumping of ugly and old vehicles in Malaysia can be solved," he told the Dewan Rakyat here today.

He said this to answer a question from Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) who asked him to state the government's efforts to manage the disposal of dirty and end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) while maintaining environmental sustainability.

Commenting further, Hasbi said matters involving the disposal and environmental sustainability were also the responsibility of other relevant ministries and not solely his ministry.

"In this regard, the Ministry through JPJ is ready to work together with related government agencies to study the long-term direction of this matter including studying the concept of scrapping these type of vehicles.

"The implementation of this system will contribute to increasing levels of road safety, reduce pollution and boost the demand for vehicles that will contribute to the sustainability of the country's automotive sector," he said.
