Noraini Idris appointed as Sabah Umno Wanita chief

KOTA KINABALU - Penampang Umno Wanita chief Datuk Noraini Idris has been appointed as the new Sabah Umno Wanita chief for the 2023-2026 term.

Her appointment was announced by Umno Wanita chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad after chairing the first Umno Wanita exco meeting at Menara Dato' Onn, Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC), yesterday.

The announcement also included the appointment of three key officers namely Datuk Rosni Sohar as the secretary, Datin Maizatul Akmam Alawi as the treasurer and Datuk Rosni Zahari as the information chief.

Noraini said her appointment as Sabah Umno Wanita chief came with great responsibility.

"It needs support from all parties, especially the leadership of Wanita Umno at all levels, especially in the state.

"I understand that this responsibility is not easy, but I am confident that with teamwork among women leaders at all levels, it will ensure that Umno Wanita will remain at the forefront of the party and ensure the continuation of the party's fight and return the power it had before this," she said in a statement, today.

She also said she will carry out her duty fully with the help of the Wanita Umno machinery.

"We will have to go through many challenges to ensure Umno remains relevant and accepted by the people in Sabah although there are many negative perceptions being played by certain parties in the state,” she said.

Noraini said her political career began by joining Sabah Umno in 2001 and became a leader in Sabah Umno Puteri after being appointed as secretary.

She was then appointed as the Penampang Umno Puteri chief in 2004 and was elected as Umno Puteri exco.

After that, Noraini was elected as the Penampang Umno Wanita chief and the Sabah Umno Wanita information chief.

On Dec 9, 2021, she was elected by the Sabah State Assembly (DUN) as a senator.
