Girl injured after being exposed to chemical flowing from neighbour's pipe

A girl was almost seriously injured after she was exposed to chemicals from a pipe in the bathroom at her home in Kepong, here, on Thursday.

KUALA LUMPUR - A girl was nearly left with serious injuries after she was exposed to chemicals from a pipe in the bathroom at her home in Kepong, here, yesterday.

In the incident at about 6pm, the six-year-old victim was believed to be taking a shower.

The victim's father, known as Hasnol, 33, said the chemical was flowing from their neighbour's pipe.

"I was shocked when I heard my daughter's scream. I rushed into the bathroom before I found the black liquid flowing from my neighbour's pipe located under the shower.

"I had panicked when she said she was in pain after she was in contact with the substance before I rushed to the neighbour's house to tell them about it," he said today.

Then he immediately took his daughter to a nearby clinic to receive treatment.

"I was relieved when the doctor said she did not suffer any serious injuries, and the red marks on her body had also disappeared.

"The neighbour said their pipe was clogged, so they used the chemical so that the water could flow normally again," he said.

He said this kind of incident should not happen as it can pose danger to other parties.

'You should not take action by yourself by pouring chemicals into the pipe to solve problems of clogged pipes, as it is risky.

"I did not lodge a police report since I don't want to prolong this matter, but I do hope what happened won't happen to other people," he said.

Meanwhile, Sentul police chief assistant commissioner Beh Eng Lai said he did not receive any report about the incident when contacted.
