'Buka puasa' at cemetery violates manners, morals - Kelantan Mufti

KOTA BAHRU - The action of having 'buka puasa' at a cemetery compound is not appropriate, says Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad.

He has expressed his worry that such an act would result in a violation of manners and morals in that area.

"For example, when visiting a grave, if an individual is not wearing a headscarf (for women), this is seen as inappropriate; or when they mingle inappropriately during iftar, for example, "That will become an issue. Since this would become a moral violation, I think it is better to find a more suitable location.

"There’s nothing wrong with having iftar in an open field as what is being done now," he said after being asked to comment on people holding iftars at cemeteries.

Sinar on Sunday reported Kampung Alor Hijau residents in Pasir Puteh held iftar at a cemetery to strengthen the relationships of those who are still alive.

Programme director Tuan Wi Tuan Ya said it was an annual event to remember those who have died.
