Police nabs man, seizes drugs worth RM4.5 million

KUALA LUMPUR - A man was arrested last Friday after his tactics of using a condominium in Ampang to store and distribute drugs using a luxury car was uncovered.

Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Yahaya Othman said the police seized various types of drugs worth RM4.5 million.

"We arrested the 29-year-old man at the car park of a supermarket in Cheras after launching a special operation.

"We seized 114 kilograms of syabu (methamphetamine) in a Toyota Vellfire multipurpose vehicle (MPV)," he said in a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters (IPK) here on Tuesday.

Yahaya said the team of police officers and personnel from the Kuala Lumpur IPK narcotics criminal investigation department (NCID) seized drugs such as ecstasy, erimin 5 (nimetazepam), ketamine and syabu after raiding a condominium on Saturday.

"The suspect's modus operandi was to make the condominium and luxury car as a storage for drugs before it was distributed locally," he said.

He said the suspect did not have permanent employment and has made drug distribution his main source of income for two months.

"The suspect tested negative on his urine test and he did not have any prior criminal records," he said.

Yahaya said the suspect has been remanded for seven days until Saturday to aid investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

"We hope the public can channel information of such illegal activities towards the authorities for further action," he said.
